Saparbay Osmonaliev Talipovitch (58) has been a painter for over four decades. His work is admired in renowned museums, exhibitions display it in a dozen countries. Presidents and businessmen ask him for portraits.
Yet, instead of considering himself famous, he centers his life on his passion for painting and family, not reputation. Saparbay is a man of unshakeable inner peace and intense strength. He has a beautiful spirit, a golden heart.
My knowledge of Russian and Kyrgyz extends to about a hundred words. Saparbay speaks none of my languages. And still, the many weekends I spent with him in his atelier in Kyrgyzstan’s capital Bishkek were full of profound conversations, eloquent silences and fine gestures.
His legacy, for me, has become more than his magnificent paintings. Our encounters have reminded me of what a life of passion, focus and dedication can look like.
I feel honored to call Saparbay my friend.
